the shop

In October of 2025, after five months of acquiring things and working on a few little projects, I outgrew the closet woodshop and rented a corner in a real workshop in North Philly. Everything about this would be something I had never done before.

The first step was to get something up on the wall, but that brick was not at all even, and I didn't really know how to shim things into being a flat surface. The process was iterative.

I went with KM Tools cleat system over making my own cleats. I decided there was a buy/build boundary here, but really it's just my own impatience for certain things.

This board is only somewhat changed now.

One of the first things the shop owner noticed was how frustrating the Centipede was to use and kindly offered to let me use one of her old benches until I made my own - something I was very keen to do, but knew would be ages before I could.

It's an old Sjobergs, and well used. I'm still using it as of March 2026.

Over time, the my space in the shop has grown (slightly) and become more or less organized as things come in and then find a home.

The next big project will be the workbench.
